Pairing your tracker to your Android phone

Five minutes on the bench, no subscription and no second app to buy. This guide covers all three Track My Bike products — the Stem Cap Tracker, the Bottle Cage Tracker and the Rear Reflector Tracker — pairing through Google’s Find Hub app. On an iPhone? Ask us for the Apple Find My version. It is the same tracker either way, not two products.

Find Hub used to be called Find My Device Google renamed the app in 2025. If your phone still shows a green radar icon labelled Find My Device, that is the same app and these steps still apply — update it from the Play Store if you want the current name and layout.

Your tracker arrives fully charged with its CR2032 cell already fitted, asleep so it does not flatten itself in transit. There is nothing to charge and no battery to install.

Hold the pairing button for 3 seconds. That is the whole step. The tracker wakes into pairing mode and starts advertising to nearby phones, ready for the next section.

•   One firm press and hold — a quick tap will not do it.

•   Pair it before you fit it into the stem cap, cage or reflector. Everything is easier on the bench.

•   The tracker itself is the matte black tag supplied with your unit, and it is already in the box.

Shipped silent — and why that matters We disable the anti-stalking speaker on every tracker before it leaves us. It will not chirp while you pair it, and it will not chirp in a thief’s garage either — which is the whole point, because a tracker that beeps is a tracker that gets found and binned. Practical upshot: Play sound in Find Hub will not do anything. That is expected, not a fault.

Your tracker joins Google’s Find Hub network directly. There is no Track My Bike app to install and no account to create with us — the tag lives in your Google Account alongside your phone and your earbuds.

1  Open Find Hub.  It is pre-installed on most Android phones, and free in the Play Store if yours does not have it.

2  Hold the pairing button for 3 seconds  with the tracker next to the phone. A "tracker tag detected" prompt usually appears on its own. If it does not, tap the + button in Find Hub and follow the prompts to add a device.

3  Tap Connect  and confirm the Google Account you want to own the tag.

4  Name your tag  something you will recognise in a list — "Road Bike", "Commuter", "Kids MTB".

5  Set network sharing to "With network in all areas"  when you are offered the choice. This one matters more than anything else on the page — see the note under the pictures.

6  Tap Save.  The bike now appears in your Find Hub device list with a location.

Choose "all areas", not "high-traffic areas only" Find Hub can be told to only report a tag’s location where lots of phones are around. That default is meant to protect privacy in quiet places — but a bike stolen from a quiet street and parked in a suburban garage is exactly the quiet place you need a location from. Set the tag to report with the network in all areas. You can change it any time: open the tag in Find Hub and look under its network settings.

 

Leave Location switched on Android will not pair or report a tag with Location turned off, and battery savers that throttle Find Hub in the background will make locations arrive late. If your bike stops updating for days at a time, check those two settings before you assume the tracker is flat.

With the tracker paired and showing on your map, seat it in the housing and fit the housing to the bike. Every Track My Bike housing closes with anti-theft Torx security bolts, and the matching Torx security key is in the box — an Allen key will not fit them, which is exactly the idea.

Stem Cap Tracker

•   Drop the tracker into the recess in the cap, then lock the cap with its four M3 grub screws.

•   Remove your old top cap, seat the Track My Bike cap and tension the headset with the M6 stainless bolt as you normally would, then re-tighten the stem bolts.

•   Nothing about the tracker changes your headset preload — set it by feel the same way you always have.

Bottle Cage Tracker

•   Clip the tracker into the pod behind the cage and close it with the security bolts.

•   Bolt the cage to the down tube or seat tube bidon mounts. A bottle still fits and hides it further.

Rear Reflector Tracker

•   Seat the tracker behind the lens, close the housing with the security bolts, then mount the reflector to the seat post or rack.

•   It reads as a factory reflector from two metres away, which is the point — leave it looking boring.

One last check before you ride Once everything is bolted up, open Find Hub again and confirm the tag still reports. Carbon frames, a full bidon and a steel rack all mute Bluetooth a little, so it is worth knowing your bike still shows up while you can still undo four bolts.

Two minutes of testing now saves an argument later. Remember that Play sound is deliberately dead on our trackers, so these three silent checks are how you confirm it is working.

One nice detail for a mixed household: The same tracker can be paired to an iPhone instead if you switch. One tracker, both platforms — just not both at once.

Find Hub lets you share a tag with other people, so a partner or a housemate can see the same bike on their own phone. Open the tag in Find Hub, tap Share, and choose who to invite. They keep access until you remove them, and only the owner account can unregister the tracker.

What you are seeing	What to do
Tag never appears when pairing	Hold the pairing button a full 3 seconds — most misses are a press that was too short. Check Bluetooth and Location are both on, keep the tag within 20 cm of the phone, update Find Hub from the Play Store, then restart the phone.
"This tag is registered to another account"	It is still paired somewhere else. On the phone that owns it, open Find Hub, open the tag, and remove or unregister it. It can then be paired fresh.
Play sound does nothing	Working as intended. The audible alert is disabled before we ship so the tracker cannot be found by ear. Use the map instead.
Location only updates in busy places	The tag is set to report in high-traffic areas only. Open it in Find Hub and switch network sharing to all areas.
No location at all	No phone has passed it since it last moved, or Location is off on your own phone. A locked garage in a quiet street can go a day or more.
Location is hours old	That is the last confirmed sighting, not a fault. Underground carparks, steel sheds and shipping containers block Bluetooth.
Location off by 50–100 metres	The position comes from the passing phone, not the tracker. It sharpens up as more devices pass by.
Bike stopped reporting after a year or so	Flat coin cell. Open the housing with the Torx security key, swap in a fresh CR2032, and it comes back on its own — still paired, still named.
